Day 12 - Poise

Even in dark dismal days devoid of colour, the tulips grace and poise always remains.

Day 11 - Red

Red. Is there a colour that is better? I think not. It is vibrant and warm. It is daring yet seductive. I love red and all that it entails.

Day 9 -10 Perspectives

I know, I know I missed a day!!  I'm hoping that todays batch of photos will make up for my lack of diligence!  I made an investment yesterday, I bought myself a Canon fisheye 8-15mm f/4L lens. Wow! I love the range on this bad boy, it has 180 degree perspective (I'm giggling right now!!) I went on a mission today to test to my new glass and I'm pretty happy with the results!

Perspective has a funny way of sneaking up on you.  A slight tilt of the head and the mood changes, you see the subject in a new light, past pretences vanish and new possibilities arise.

It is a state of conciseness; that need to view the world through eyes only your own.

I learned that finding perspective means to dig deep into ways in which you have not yet viewed the world.

People who broaden their perspective find beauty where beauty should not be.

It is a quest. A series of trials and tribulations.

It is a desire to be carefree again, crawling through the grass and climbing trees. It is childhood.

Follow your vision, you never know where it will take you...

Day 8 - Silver Lining

Everyone needs a silver lining, that glimmer of light in the darkness.

I'm sick today. The sun is gone and the rain has come; the damp has settled. Just the thought of crawling back out of my bed and blogging exhausted me. I came up with a genius plan... grab the laptop, grab the puppies and jump back into bed. I could blog horizontally, snuggle with the girls and have a chance to go through this mornings photos. (Thank goodness for early morning puppy duty!) I executed my plan flawlessly and this is where I shall remain!
I received kind words today. They came at a time when I needed their inspiration the most. They gave me strength to complete my next task... my next blog. It dawned on me (pun intended!) that each of us has the power to be the "silver lining".  We each hold the ability to brighten peoples day, to be that force that helps them to face the next quest; no matter how immense or trivial that quest may be. I received my silver lining today, I hope you all do too.

Day 7 - True Vision

It's in that rare moment when you see yourself in another persons eyes that you truly realize who you are. That split second in time where you view yourself as others view you. I had that moment today.

Day 6 - Complex Simplicity

I remember as a child, I would sit on the driveway and patiently watch ants scurry to and fro, trying desperately to rebuild their home after the onslaught of my curious fingers. I was amazed; completely and thoroughly entranced in the complex simplicity of their task. I relished these moments as a child, I found it oddly beautiful.

When I happened across this snail, it triggered in me that same feeling those ants evoked. It reminded me that beauty surrounds us if we can embrace the simplicity of life. It reminded me of the importance of slowing down and appreciating life on all levels. It's so easy to get swept away in the tide that is life, it is too easy to miss those true moments of beauty. One thing I have learned quickly is that my "365 day challenge" has turned into a "quest of inner reflection." Only 359 days left... so far so good!

Day 2 - Little piece of Zen

It's important to find a little piece of zen in your life. To have those moments where everything is right in your universe.

7D 18mm  f/5.6
After a week of the regular hustle and bustle of life, I found myself enjoying the oncoming dusk with a well deserved glass of wine. The light was rapidly changing so I grabbed my camera and headed out to the garden. For once the neighbourhood was quiet, no screaming children, barking dogs or the roar of lawnmowers. All was right in the world. I was no longer thinking of timelines or to do lists, the moment was mine; so I took it. To me, this photo represents that feeling of utter peace that was found in that moment of time.

Day 1

7D 18-200mm f/3.5
Well, I thought it would be a great idea to challenge myself and my dedication to my new world of blogging (ask me in several days if I still think this is a genius plan!). I have decided to give myself the 365 day challenge. Every day I will take a picture (of whatever captures my eye that day) and I will post in on my blog. That is what bloggers do I'm told!
So here we go... Day 1. So far so good!!
This little beauty was planted in honour of my nephews birth. Much like him, this tree has grown into a beautiful specimen!

Supreme Alpha

Who said owning puppies was easy? It is often frustrating and tiring! It's a constant struggle for the supreme title of alpha, it's a battle of wits; at times I'm embarrassed to say these two devious dogs get the one up on me. It's not fair, they tag team me, using their puppy wiles to reach their ultimate goal... victory over me!

In this precious shot, I was able to capture the love between sisters, that moment where nothing else matters but each other. That blissful time for me, where all of my girls are fast asleep! I captured this shot with my 7D and my 17-40mm lens.

Sunday, 15 April 2012

Well, here we are, my very first blog! I'm approaching blogging like I approached my transformation from film to digital...with trepidation mixed with excitement. I have a passion for photography and find myself always within reaching distance to my camera. I relish in the task of capturing "the" moment; that split second in time where the raw essence of  the soul is captured. I find with the growth of my photographic abilities and aspirations, my view on the world has changed. Photography is so ingrained in me that even without my camera, I am constantly surveying the possible lighting sources and view points. I decided that the first picture I would post is of my favourite muse and inspiration, My sweet goddaughter Skylar Jane.
